1. Is Our Savior's Lutheran School accredited?
Yes, Our Savior's Lutheran School is a fully accredited preschool and elementary school.
2. What are Our Savior's Lutheran School's class sizes and teacher-to-student ratios?
Our preschool has a maximum limit of eighteen students per class. Our kindergarten and first grade classes have a twenty-student limt, and our third, fourth and fifth grade classes are cut off at twenty-seven students. Our average class size is about twent-two students per class.
All of our preschool classes have one full-time teacher and one teaching assistant. Elementary classes have one full-time teacher, plus one teaching assistant for classes with over twenty students.
3. Are Our Savior's Lutheran School teachers credentialed?
All of our full-time classroom teachers are fully credentialed. Unlike the public schools who have many emergency credentialed teachers, Our Savior’s has teachers with clear and lifetime credentials from the State of California. Our enrichment teachers hold degrees in their fields.
4. Does Our Savior's Lutheran School provide hot lunches?
Yes! Our Savior's Lutheran School's lunch program is Choice Lunch which offers quality, wholesome lunches at an affordable price. Parents register online and can choose from 12 tasty entrées daily. Students then pick up their pre-ordered lunch at the lunch counter and have an additional choice of drinks, a snack and fruit.
5. Does Our Savior's Lutheran School partake in standardized testing, and how does Our Savior's perform?
Our Savior's Lutheran School uses the Stanford 10 and the Otis Lennon. Students in grades 1 through 5 are tested in the spring of each year. Our Savior’s Lutheran School consistently scores in the top 10% of the nation. We were awarded the National Blue Ribbon School of excellence by the U.S. Department of Education in 2004. Only private schools scoring in the top 10% are given this award.
6. Does Our Savior's Lutheran School offer after school programs?
At Our Saviors's Lutheran School, after-school daycare and study hall are standard. In addition we offer KIDART, Advanced Math class for fifth graders, plus Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Our music teacher and his wife offer music lessons in both instruments and voice. On Wednesday evening the church offers a wide variety of programs for all ages.
7. Since Our Savior's Lutheran School an elementary school only, where do your graduated students attend middle school?
About half of Our Savior's Lutheran School's parents choose to continue with private school for their children's education following graduation from Our Savior's. The other half of our parents choose public school as their middle school choice following Our Savior's. Of the 50% of our graduated students whose parents do choose public school, approximately 20% of these students usually qualify for GATE. You will find OSLS alumni at all three public middle schools in San Clemente. We have worked hard to establish a good relationship with area middle schools, be it private or public, and have succeeded in doing so. Our Savior’s has an excellent reputation in the community. Every October we send out a middle school packet with information about both private and public schools in the area to all of our fifth grade families. This helps each family find a middle school that fits their child's needs, and their child.
