SMALL SCHOOL. BIG IMPACT! ...OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN SCHOOL.
Ever meet someone or go somewhere and find that the experience made a lasting impression on you? Our Savior’s Lutheran School is such a place. Located in the city of San Clemente, Our Savior’s finds itself peacefully perched on a hill overlooking the Pacific while surrounded by constant development and busy streets. In a fast paced lifestyle area, where many parents find themselves working long hours to make ends meet and children grow up much too fast, Our Savior’s offers a unique alternative. It offers a safe, family oriented program where everyone knows your name and children are encouraged to be children. Yes, the pressures for academic and social success are many on the students at this school, yet students quickly come to realize that they are loved and respected for their individuality and soul. Standing in the parking lot, a visitor would quickly be struck by the numerous conversations and hugs between parents, parents and children, teachers and parents, and so on.
The impressions Our Savior’s makes on their students is brought vividly back to life when you hear success stories about alumni. Examples range from alumni writing college entry essays about their experiences at the school, getting lead parts in high school musicals because the music program at OSLS had them fall in love with music, or taking numerous honor classes, and becoming part of an academic decathlon team because the teachers at Our Savior’s gave them the best study skills possible and held them to a high standard. The best compliment of all has to be when alumni return with their own children and say, “My child has to go to OSLS because my experience here was so positive.”
Our Savior’s Lutheran School provides excellence in education in a Lutheran Christian environment and instills in its students the traits necessary to form healthy relationships based on character, integrity and mutual respect. Students, parents, educators, and church members celebrate and honor the diversity of gifts, abilities and backgrounds each contributes to the school community.
Celebrations and honors highlighting these opportunities abound. This National Blue Ribbon School is fully accredited and their application is used as the standard for other schools to follow. Each year for the last 10 years their SAT scores have been in the top 10% in the nation. Students compete in Orange County History Day (this year they were state champions), host a booth at Character Counts Jamboree, march in the Red Ribbon parade and the Hunger Walk, and report to the beach for their home town’s annual beach clean-up. Other opportunities provide service to the community and the world beyond. At Christmas the students gather and parents deliver gifts to needy children. Students spend a month collecting food for Second Harvest and another month collecting items for health kits for disaster victims. They enjoy giving back to their community and their monthly chapel offerings go to organizations like the San Clemente Boys and Girls Club, Family Assistance Ministries, Laura’s House, South County Hunger Walk and Make a Wish Foundation.
The school’s motto: Inspired to learn and encouraged to serve is simple but powerful. It reveals the heart of the school and leaves a lasting impression on its families and on the lives of people served by its students.
Our Savior’s Lutheran School is a great place to call “home.”
